The Tuesday Bible Study Group took a day trip to Statesboro on Tuesday, October 5th.  We had seventeen (Yep, 17)  happy travelers who visited the Open Hearts Community Mission (OHCM).  We were blessed to meet Delia Mobley, the Executive Director of OHCM, who gave us a wonderful tour of the mission and shared the rich history of how the mission came into existence, from an idea/dream to the reality that we witnessed. We also met some of the nearly 20 residents, and heard a few of their personal stories of how God is using the OHCM to transform them personally.

This Christian ministry (which is privately funded by individual in Bulloch and the surrounding counties) is changing the look of homelessnes in Bulloch county.  The goal of OHCM is not to provide just food and a place to sleep, but to help the residents develop skills to find work, manage their money, and become productive citizens.  Our group also learned how we as individuals and as a church could participate in helping this successful ministry continue to have a strong Christian influence in these residents’ lives.

After the tour we traveled to Pittman Park United Methodist Church and had a fantastic time of fellowship as we enjoyed our over a Chick-Fil-a Boxed lunch.  Afterwards we “dove into” our Bible Study about the book of Jonah.

After loading the bus to return to Sylvania, Pittman Park UMC’s pastor, Jonathan Smith, prayed for our group. It was a beautiful day and a delightful trip. Thanks to Pastor Dorsia, Jodi, and Ashley for lining this up for us.

Our Bible Study group meets each Tuesday at 1:00PM in the Fellowship Hall of the church and will continue swimming into more about Jonah, and we would be happy to have you join us.

Our future plans for the group is to continue to periodically do “Roadtrip” Bible Studies in combination with visiting other ministries and eating establishments around the Screven County area.  We’d love to have you come to be a part of that as well.
